Musings Blog: Theresa Girard and the Art of Abstraction

In this edition of the Musings Blog, artist Theresa Girard offers a behind-the-scenes look at how she creates her striking abstract paintings, originally shared with The Art Appreciation Group of The League Club of Naples.

A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Theresa has been immersed in the arts since childhood. She pursued a self-directed education focused on early 20th-century contemporary artists, blending her passion for art with a successful career as a color expert and educator for a major manufacturing company. Rising to the top in marketing, training, and education, she also styled and staged major photo shoots, trade shows, and creative programs from New York to Los Angeles.

With over 30 years of experience in adult education, Theresa has taught countless workshops and is a nationally recognized facilitator of programs designed for creative professionals. She studied at the Community College of Rhode Island and completed continuing education courses at the Rhode Island School of Design and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts.

Today, her dynamic painterly abstractions are represented by galleries across the country and have been featured in leading publications such as The Artist’s Magazine, Palette Magazine, Art Collector, Florida Design, Gulfshore Life, Elle Decor, and Architectural Digest.

“When approaching the canvas, I am unsure if the process will be heavily marked, textured, or quiet. I am not looking to reveal or conceal, to clarify or dissolve, I am searching for a presence of paint and a conflict in color, bold or perhaps subdued.”
