A native of Providence, RI and involved in the arts from an early age, Theresa crafted her own education studying early 20th Century contemporary artists. A color expert and educator for a large manufacturing company, she advanced to the top of her career in marketing, education, and training.

She staged and styled numerous photo shoots, large trade productions, and program development from NY to LA. She has been a teacher of adult education for over 30 years. She attended Community College of RI, CE Programs RISD & SMFA Tufts. Ms. Girard is a nationally sought after facilitator of a variety of “workshops for creative people.” She is represented by several galleries throughout the country. Her painterly abstractions have been featured in several national publications including The Artist Magazine, Palette Magazine, Art Collector, Florida Design, Gulfshore Life, Elle Decor, and Architectural Digest.

“When approaching the canvas, I am unsure if the process will be heavily marked, textured, or quiet. I am not looking to reveal or conceal, to clarify or dissolve, I am searching for a presence of paint and a conflict in color, bold or perhaps subdued.”

Mary is a floral, abstract and figurative painter whose work is varied in technique and content. Inspired from nature, Parkman translates the world around her using expressive paint strokes and a colorful palette. “My floral paintings consider the same elements as when painting an abstract painting. I put paint on the canvas and push and pull with the paint: addressing value, color, shape and mark making until I achieve a balance and sense of space that feels complete. Though making a“representational” painting, it is not just about the hydrangeas or roses—but amore complicated balance of what I see and feel within, in combination of what the viewer sees and feels. This balance is constantly in motion. Underneath the finished painting, there are a myriad of paintings the viewer doesn’t see. All of those buried layers represent equations that were wrestled with before I moved on.”

“How do I know when a painting is done? I don’t. I just have to stop.”

Driven to bring new life to objects that may otherwise have been lost in time, Kelsey Irvin finds herself collecting traces of lives lived – “memories misplaced in need of recognition.”

“Using vintage ephemera in my work is a way to pay homage to those memories, those lives. In a world that is becoming more digital each day, I’m driven to bring new life to objects that may otherwise be lost and deteriorated in time. The challenge I seek is to maintain a balance between working with such old objects and recreating them in a contemporary artwork that holds the test of time.
