Wine and Art

Hello Fall!

There’s a chill in the air, even in Naples FL.  Our wardrobes change (Yay to Sweaters!), the trees change and summery cocktails give way to more refined tastes that you sip rather than drink. Here’s to Wine! There’s no place better than 3rd Street South to enjoy Fine wine and Fine art. The two compliment one another in style, ‘taste’ and palette.

Here are are some of Gardner Colby Gallery’s recommended Wine and Art pairings.

Flowers & Mary parkman

Gardner Colby Gallery features well known artists with varying styles and genres.

Mary Parkman’s beautiful floral still life paintings are both lush and ‘fragrant’, much like a fine Chardonnay such as Flowers.  The floral expressive contemporary still life works of Mary Parkman and a bottle of chardonnay are both classic, versatile, and easy on the eyes and the taste buds. Enjoy Mary ’s Evening Glimmer, with its lush peonies and golden hues laced throughout while sipping a lovely glass of Flowers Chardonnay.

Our suggested wine pairing (and highly recommended) is a bottle of Flowers Chardonnay. This delicious Sonoma Coast chardonnay features jasmine and orange blossom aromas as well as hints of nutmeg and gingerbread. From color to essence the floral paintings of Mary Parkman and a glass of Flowers Chardonnay create the perfect recipe for unwinding after a long day and allowing yourself to stop and smell roses.

veuve Clicquot & Kevin Sloan

Gardner Colby Gallery has represented Kevin Sloan for over 25 years.  The similarities between Kevin Sloan’s amazing paintings and Veuve Clicquot are unique.

Featured below is The Citadel by Kevin Sloan. Tapping into the connotation of the Veuve Clicquot brand, the work of Sloan is classic, prioritizes quality and detail, and is not afraid to be fun!

Iconic describes the distinct Veuve Clicquot label as well as Mr Sloan’s paintings in the Allegorical Realism genre. Iconic symbols such as monarch butterflies, bumble bees and oranges (the distinct color of Veuve Clicquot labels ), often appear in Sloan’s work,. His story telling centers on the natural world, and often nature’s interaction with man’s world. A prime example is Kevin Sloan’s The Citadel.

As with Veuve Clicquot, Mr Sloan’s work is bubbly, classy and not afraid to have fun. Find a beautiful flute and sip away!

Opus One & Anna Kincaide

Our third wine and fine art pairing features the figurative paintings of Anna Kincaide and a sophisticated red wine, Opus One.

Anna Kincaide is another of Gardner Colby’s most popular artists. Ms Kincaide’s use of color, florals and patterns makes her distinct figurative compositions both rich and timeless, much like the flavor profile of the elegant Opus One. Sip it slowly while enjoying and admiring an Anna Kincaide painting such as Let it Grow.

The luxurious red is described as creamy with satiny texture. Its freshness and soft glow of acidity create a subtle tension with dark fruit flavors, savory herbs, espresso, and cocoa. Presenting intense aromas of black plum, blueberry, black currant, and dried rose petals, each flavor and aroma resonates with the work of Anna Kincaide, much like the eloquently curated textures and patterns found throughout her figurative and fun works.

Much like a bottle of fine wine, having an original Mary Parkman, Kevin Sloan, Anna Kincaide, or any of Gardner Colby Gallery’s artists in your home, is a statement of style and taste. CHEERS!

Stay tuned for more art and culture pairings!
