 Biography

Juan Carlos Collada

Inspired by his ever-present awe of nature, Juan Carlos Collada uses multi-colored hand-painted butterflies to create his fanciful works which harken back to childhood memories.

  • Multimedia artist Juan Carlos Collada (b.1966) is a native of Miami and studied Painting and Printmaking at Miami Dade College. A believer that artists should experience and experiment with various mediums, Juan Carlos has lived and worked designing textiles in Milan, furniture in San Francisco and decorative lighting in North Carolina. His father and grandfather both immigrated to the U.S. from Cuba where they worked as marble masons while pursuing marble sculpture and furniture design in their free time. Inspired by his childhood memories of their love of stone Juan Carlos recently studied stone sculpting under Mexican Sculptor Gerado Bervera at Instituto Allende in San Miguel De Allende. As a child Juan Carlos spent time in the Florida Keys enjoying a connection with the outdoors that has lasted his whole life. Inspired by this ever-present awe of nature Juan Carlos introduced his "Flight of the Butterflies" series leading to his experimentation with the form and color of what he considers to be one of Mother Nature’s most beautiful creations.

He currently divides his time between Toronto and Naples where Juan Carlos enjoys planting flowers that nurture his muse, the butterfly. Juan Carlos's art is in numerous personal collections and he is proud to be represented in Naples by Gardner Colby Gallery.
