Biography

Doug Foltz

A Doug Foltz painting, whether a seascape, landscape or abstract, explores and pushes the edge....of both painting technique and visual representation.

  • As a native of South Miami, Doug Foltz spent much of his life exploring – alone – on or around the water. Those elemental moments of sky and water... and the edges between... form the foundation for Doug’s exploration as a painter as well. A fascination with graphic composition and a deep respect for shifting light greatly influence his paintings, while opening new views of both the expanse and the detail of the coastal landscape.

Most often referenced as "interpretive", Doug easily departs realism to explore more abstract or distant characters. A Foltz landscape attempts to say as much about the way a place “feels”, as the way it looks.

Although he has been painting and drawing since childhood, Doug has an undergraduate and graduate degree in Architecture from Auburn University, and has spent 35 years as a professional architect, graphic designer, visual communication strategist, and corporate communication consultant. He currently divides his time painting in various locale, from the Bahamas to the Central Maine coast.

Doug’s work hangs in private and corporate collections from Seattle to the Bahamas and northern Europe., and has been exhibited widely along the east coast of the United States.
